First day: Djerba / Ksar Ghilane / Zmela
Two days from Djerba
Departure from the hotel around 8:00 a.m. (7:00 a.m. in summer) in a 4×4 towards Toujane. A stop in a Berber house.
You will be able to experience the traditional Berber habitat. Families live from growing olives, harvesting honey and raising a few sheep. Women work weaving carpets.
Then drive to Matmata and ancient Zraoua, a very beautiful Berber village almost abandoned.
Lunch either picnic in Zraoua or in Matmata.
Then the road that crosses the desert without sand will take you to the dunes. Along this road you will probably see herds of camels with their babies and donkeys almost returned to the wild. A break at Ksar Ghilane, the southernmost oasis of Tunisia which was created after the discovery of the hot spring that now irrigates it. Possibility of bathing in the hot spring and camel ride (extra).
For the evening and the night: 2 possibilities:
- Continue along the track to the Zmela camp in the middle of the desert where you can enjoy traditional food with bread cooked in the sand, sleep in beds under tents (or in the open air…).
- Leave with the dromedaries of Ksar Ghilane for a night in bivouac. Traditional dinner around the wood fire, night under tents or under the stars. We provide a mattress and a blanket per person. (from September to June)
Second day: Zmela / Ksar Ghilane / Djerba
For the return you will take the track towards the east and discover Ksar Guermessa
Then you will go to Douiret. Visit the village before lunch.
Then discovery of Ksar Ouled Soltane, the most beautiful in the region.
Finally back on the island.
The circuit can be slightly modified and adapted to the circumstances or to the rhythm and tastes of the groups.
