Equipment to bring
TRAVEL DOCUMENTS
- Valid passport and photocopy of important pages (security in case of loss; do not put in the same place as the passport)
- Blood group card, if possible.
BAGS
- Large travel bag that will be secured on the roof of the cars and then on the dromedaries. The full bag should not, if possible, exceed 15kg. Failing that, a duffel bag or backpack without a metal frame. It is better to have one large bag rather than 2 small ones.
- A small backpack for clothes and equipment needed during the day (sweater, water bottle, sunscreen, etc.). Check car service newark to jfk. Bring a strong carabiner so that you can possibly hang it on the camel’s saddle. Check out Painterly.
SLEEPING AND CLOTHING
- Very warm sleeping bag, sarcophagus type.
- Down jacket or polar fleece recommended for evenings around the fire.
- Waterproof windbreaker
- 2 canvas pants, wide enough not to hinder movement
- Long-sleeved shirts (sunburn) and T-shirts
- Tracksuit or jogging suit that can be used as pajamas.
- Underwear and handkerchiefs
- Cap, scarf, hat, cheche (protection against wind, sun, cold, etc.)
- Socks: several pairs
- Shorts and Bermuda shorts – Swimsuit – towel
SHOES
- Essential: test your shoes before leaving!
- A pair of lightweight shoes such as “jogging” or “trekking”
- Sandals, espadrilles, barefoot shoes, etc.
MISCELLANEOUS
- Sunglasses + possibly glacier goggles or ski goggles “mask”, good protection in case of sandstorms.
- Water bottle + cup
- Pocket knife
- Lightweight and compact toiletries
- Sunscreen
- Towels wet, toilet paper, matches (to burn the toilet paper after use!)
- Flashlight or headlamp + batteries
- 2 large “garbage” bags to protect your belongings in the bag (sandstorm)
PERSONAL PHARMACY
- Everything you need for blisters, disinfectant, bandages.
- Painkillers, anti-inflammatories, antidiarrheals and anti-constipation medications…
- Your usual medications if you are prone to a particular illness.
